Title: Screencast Software?
Post by: Red on May 28, 2011, 07:58:37 AM
hey all, kinda had some thoughts about recording some of the processes i've been using to cobble together what i'm aiming for and posting them to youtube or something... sort of a "here's what i did and how i did it" kinda thing.

with that in mind, what sort of software would you recommend for recording (ideally with audio through a microphone or soemthing) screencasts?

I used the latest CamStudio with the xvid codec for encoding video.

4 minutes of 2560x1440 video was less than 100MB and the quality seemed pretty good. I could get it to record from the microphone, but couldn't mix in speaker audio for some reason.

I found the best quality configuration was:

Video Options
 > Quality = 1
 > Max Framerate
 > Configure
    > Profile = unrestricted
    > Target quantizer = 4
    > Quality preset = Real-time
    > Other Options
         > Display Encoding Status = off
