Playmaker Help / Vuforia & Playmaker Setup/Use

Hey All...Jean and I have been exchanging private messages which could be helpful as a public discussion about the basics of setting up and using Vuforia with Playmaker. I've faced several challenges and thought I'd share some of what I've gone through along with some info I've gotten from Jean's responses.

My initial problem was Vuforia and Playmaker were installing fine in Unity 2017 (but there was a problem with my project importing), but when installing Vuforia in Unity 2018 there was an error message due to one of the actions being deprecated. That was solved when Jean told me:

Add PLAYMAKER_VUFORIA_7_2_20_OR_NEWER to Scripting Define symbols field in the Player Settings.

That allowed me to use Vuforia in Unity 2018 along with Playmaker, but it really confused me about how Playmaker could control Vuforia because in 2017 the deprecated Playmaker action seemed to have a lot of things it could do, but I can't find any of that in 2018.

Jean's response to this was:

The removed component is obsolete, now everything can be setup within Vuforia using their own components, no need for API access to control position of objects when the original target position is lost (called extended tracking).

I'm going to check on this today, but I must admit I'm still quite confused. I can't even figure out how to use the simple Playmaker Vuforia Trackable Proxy component. I'm getting a "Not Implemented on Target" message even though the component is on ImageTarget.

I guess I wish there were a little more detailed instructions about all this than the few sentences on the Playmaker Vuforia page on the Hutong website.

Does anyone else have any input...and/or questions. I'm super excited about AR and the first game test is super cool, but not sure if a non-programmer like me will be able to do it.

Has anyone got latest version of Vuforia working with the latest version of Unity? I'm getting a namespace error. Do I need to go back to Unity 2017 or is there a solution?

Playmaker Help / Login System with Playmaker Actions

We want to have a login system connected to a database and wondering if anyone has any suggestions for assets which have Playmaker actions already. I see inLOGIN in the in the Wiki, but curious if there are others which would be even better in terms of allowing other functions (friend lists, trophies, etc.)?


Playmaker Help / Photon View RPC Broadcast Fsm Event to Player

We're trying to keep network traffic lower by using:

Photon View RPC Broadcast Fsm Event to Player

But it doesn't seem to be working. If we use Broadcast Fsm Event which is broadcast to all then the event triggers the expected behavior...

But if we get use "Phone View Get Owner Properties" to get "Name" under "player properties" then use the "Name" for the "Target Player Name" when using "...Broadcast Fsm Event to Player" nothing happens.

We can see the player name at runtime and see it is the name returned from the Owner Properties...but the event isn't being received by that player.


User Showcase / "Acting Kindly" app/game...Spreading Kindness

We've been working on something rather different using Unity and Playmaker. It's an app/game called "Acting Kindly" now out for both Android and iOS. In Quest Mode it's an app which allows users to draw kindness cards from different decks, keep them in their quest list and share on Facebook when they’ve completed any of their missions.

In Game Mode is an incredibly fun and unique multiplayer, totally cooperative, experience where small teams run around in public doing acts of kindness and funny deeds to bring joy to others. The app/game empowers people of all ages to spread kindness, interact with strangers and make the world a better place.

Playmaker Help / Unity 2017.1 & Playmaker[SOLVED]

I'm testing out Unity 2017.1 mostly because very interested in the "Collaborate," but also would like to have long term project on latest version.

Good news is almost all assets seem to be compatible...BUT...

Playmaker isn't showing up on menu. Have tried updating from v.1.8.4 to 1.8.5...but not getting any install popup. Have tried running the install package in the Install folder...but after import no Install popup and still now menu item.

Is there a trick to getting Playmaker working in 2017?

ALSO...there is another topic about Ecosystem only working in 2017.2...but I'm not finding that version on the Unity site. Can I use Ecosystem with 2017.1?


Playmaker Help / Saving List of Watched Video

Hi All...

We're creating a virtual world which will have different worlds with lots of different videos with each world representing a different category. Trying to figure out the best way to save in the info about which videos have been watched by a player. I'm using SmoothSave and Playmaker.

Thinking about creating an array for each category (algebra, geometry, etc.) where the index represents the number of the video in that category and an entry where 0 is unwatched and watched is 1. Would that work? Would I be better off creating the full array filled with zeros at the beginning or only add the one as they watch? This is important because there are over 4,000 total videos which will be I'm worried if I fill the arrays at the beginning it could slow down the game.

I'm pretty new to all this so I'm hoping someone might tell me a way which fits this scenario well.

Playmaker Help / Floating Platforms

Hey All...

I'm creating 3d system of floating platforms in the sky. I want them to gently move and figure I can do a simple iTween, but also thought to have them react to player's weight very subtly.

How would I use Playmaker to have an object appear to be floating in the air and respond to the weight of a player?

Hey All...

Has anyone using Playmaker been able to integrate Photon and the free Invector 3rd Person Controller? We have Photon working with our character prefab, but I haven't figured out how to put the Invector controller on the player character and get it to work. Would be great to hear from anyone who has successfully done it.

Is there a way to export a text list of variables/global variables used in Playmaker? Want to clean up the game and it would help to have a list in a document to cross check where variables are being used.

Playmaker Help / Mouse Look Shaking

Hi Everyone...

We've been having a strange problem where there is a shakiness to many of the walls in a 3D game we're building in Unity 5.6 with Playmaker 1.8.4f5. After testing a number of things we turned off the Mouse Look action and everything became steady. We've tried various settings and a couple of Mouse Look actions, but the problem continues.

PLEASE makes the game look horrible, but we need to be able to use the mouse to navigate.


Playmaker Help / Word Wrap Input Field [SOLVED]

I have a large box for an input field, but as text is entered it scrolls to the left instead of wrapping where it can all be visible. I seen in the Unity Manual ( I need:

MultiLineSubmit   Is a multiline InputField with vertical scrolling and overflow. Pressing the return key will submit.

Is there a way to do this with Playmaker?


Playmaker Help / Camera Permission for Android

We're using Playmaker to create a game which allows players to take a photo and post it to Facebook. All's working well except if the player has NOT authorized the game to use the camera it throws up a black screen.

Is there a way using Playmaker to check if the game has been authorized to access the camera and to change the authorization if not once the player clicks on a button in a popup?

Playmaker Help / Spinner Rotation Problem

Hi All,

We have a game with a spinning wheel which shows the type of card a player will draw in the game. Everything works EXCEPT figuring out how to set it up so the wheel has to spin at least 180 degrees for it to be a valid spin. Have tried several solutions, but all of them have flaws.

Is there any kind of action which will calculate the degrees of rotation an object spins in total even if it does more than one full rotation.

Here are the details:

We have the "spinner" set to start at 11.25 on the Z so the pointer is right in the middle of the first space. There are a total of 16 spaces on the wheel.

The complications include:
  • Making sure the spin is read while in motion so that if it makes a full rotation it is a valid spin even if numerically the Z isn't 180 degrees different.
  • Computing the spin from the next spin location...especially when the spin passes 0/360
  • Counterclockwise spins complicate things more since the numbers are going down...and the fact that we have the start at 11.25 really has my mind spinning.

If there is an action which will simply calculate the rotations in total degrees it would be fantastic. Other idea is to have a way to calculate this based on the rotation of a child...which is reset after each invalid spin, but couldn't figure that out either.

Playmaker Help / Audio Play Problem

Play Sound action seems to have a problem in WebGL build in Chrome so I'm moving all my SFX to use Audio Play...but I'm having a strange problem.

On the Score Manager I have an FSM which basically loops around 10 times adding 10 points each loop and playing a SFX. When I use Play Sound it goes really quickly looking and sounding great.

When I use Audio Play it's like the action waits for the SFX to finish before going to the next it is way too slow. I've tried various options both with Set Audio and without it using One Shot.

How do I get it so the FSM keeps moving during the SFX playing?
