Hi, seeing a few random posts today, thought I should share this action.

You can set the random seed by int, by miliseconds, by ticks, and has a debug to show what the result is (so you can double check the seeds are random).

If someone would like to post it to the ecosystem for me, please do that  ;D

Playmaker Announcements / Playmaker Game Jam
« on: February 05, 2018, 01:03:39 AM »
Hi, so some of us have been discussing putting together a playmaker game jam. Please post below if you would be interested in joining. It would likely be 48 hours long, over a weekend. A secret theme would be chosen. Rules would be pretty flexible to allow very small teams or single person teams to be able to create.

Judged or ranked, not sure yet. All done online. seems like a good place to do it. Our unofficial playmaker slack channel is also open for chatting.

Comment below if you are interested or have ideas? I have never hosted a game jam before  8)

Share New Actions / Steam VR Load Level Actions + Tutorial
« on: August 24, 2017, 02:21:34 AM »
I created a few actions for steam VR (for free). You can access them from my github account.

Also there is a tutorial going over the whole steam VR load level script (from setup, to how to use the actions). There are lots of quirks about the steam VR load level script, but it does have some pretty cool advantages.

Such as you can show a loading bar between VR scenes, set your own custom skybox or logo in the load screens, etc.

If you have problems with it, don't hesitate to join us at the (unofficial) playmaker slack chat channel. We are there daily:

Today I finished updating actions against the VRTK current github version, which is 3.3.0 beta. However, my understanding that this version of VRTK is pretty close to release.

Please use the master branch. See the updating instructions if you are coming from vrtk 3.2.0 or lower. Remember, ALWAYS backup your project before updating.

Note: there is a 3.2.0 and 3.1.0 branch still available, however, if you are new to VRTK, i suggest using the master branch and the github version of VRTK (not the asset store version).

If you have any problems, feel free to bump me here or visit me almost daily at our playmaker/vr slack channel:

If you have any suggestion for new actions, please let me know. There are SOOO many possible actions, that is is mostly by request now  8)

Share New Actions / Spine Actions
« on: July 19, 2017, 11:25:17 PM »
Hello. I will be posting updates to the spine actions here in this thread. Please comment if you would like to follow the updates. I am open to suggestions about which actions you would like to see (within my programming abilities and spines unity capabilities).

I've created a single action to start off, and make sure that it is working for everyone. Please note, I am using unity 2017.1 (although this should work with 5.6 as well) and the newest version of the Spine-Unity 3.6 runtime unitypackage. It is required that you have this (free) package installed in order to use these actions. You can download it here:

It is likely to work on earlier version of unity/spine runtime package, but is untested. Please always backup your project before trying something new.

Today I have attached a single action. I will open a github account to host the actions soon. Once there is enough actions for it to be considered "working", I will move them over to the ecosystem.

Please note these actions are NOT upgradable from other spine actions that may have been released before.

Action: Spine Play Animation.

Allows you set an animation for a spline character by string. Please note I chose to use strings because they can be saved a playmaker variables easily.

Options: looping, track index.

General Discussion / Alex/ Jean - C# Destroy in Custom FSM [Solved]
« on: July 03, 2017, 05:54:46 AM »

It seems like I cannot called Destroy() in a playmaker FsmStateAction script (even though I can in a normal monodevelop c# script). Is there a reason for this, or a way I can work around it?

General Discussion / Layer Masks in Custom Actions
« on: June 28, 2017, 01:41:16 AM »
I am trying to get layer masks working in a custom action. I see that the raycast action just uses a layer mask int. Is there any way to get the correct editor enum for layers working in a playmaker action?

Any example actions of this working?

Share New Actions / Shadow Detection
« on: June 21, 2017, 07:59:12 AM »
There is a cool shadow detection package for free on unity here:!/content/84042

I wrote 3 playmaker actions for it. Basically event triggers for enter/exit shadows.

You can download them for free from my github account:

In this playmaker tutorial I show how to create clickable objects to select and a second click on the screen to move to this new location. (Click character to choose, click location to move).

We also look at:
- movement with or without navmesh
- mouse over/exit/click/unclick sound effects or color effects
- how to limit click destination selections
- send events over more than one fsm
- how to use this with one or many game objects

Tutorial Video:

In this tutorial (and free action set for playmaker), I show to make cute speech bubbles appear over NPC heads. This action set does NOT require any paid third party assets. It is written completely in playmaker and is free from my github account.

"Use this custom playmaker action for Unity 5 to create speech bubbles above your NPC or Players heads in worldspace that can fade in or out, as well as optionally always face your main camera (or any point). Works great for VR, thirdperson or first person games."

Since it uses the canvas system, it can be used with textmeshpro, normal unity text, etc.

I suggest you watch the tutorial first to learn how to use the action, as well as get the speech bubble prefab I made. Tutorial:

Did you ever want to be able to cause a hit reaction on your characters dynamically? Ie, when your character/NPC takes a bullet or a hit, they react "naturally". Did you want to use ragdoll deaths or have ragdolls come back to life?

This asset and custom actions are for you! These actions are a bit of a work in progress, but they are in fact working (I know because I am using them in my game).

"In this tutorial we look at getting hit reactions using the third party asset "Ragdoll - Hit Reaction Manager" along with playmaker. We show three different possible methods to trigger hit reactions including setting a manual location (by vector3), mouse click and raycast. Great for natural reactions to gunshots, collisions and other "hits".

Custom Actions here:

If you are looking for an action for this asset that I havent already written, please let me know, and Ill see what I can do. I hope to have at least one more tutorial up for this asset/custom actions regarding deaths, etc.

Tutorial and custom action.

1. Imagine you want to throw your grenade (or missile or whatever) to a specific location, from a specific location. Ie, from your hand to the bad guys face. But how do you know exactly how much force to apply to get that rigidbody grenade to land at the exact spot? Watch the tutorial and download the custom actions from my github account!

It only takes 1 action to calculate and 1 action to launch. Easy.

2. Imagine you want to predict the path of that grenade BEFORE you throw it. And render the line on screen to show your players. That way they can decide if they want to throw it. I have a custom action for that too! (Please note, this second custom action set requires a paid asset called "Trajectory Predictor".!/content/55752

I wrote a custom playmaker action to predict the path from playmaker (to use with this asset). The action is free, the asset is not.

All of this is covered in my tutorial here on youtube:

This is all rigidbody based (no animations), so that your grenade can hit a wall or bounce off the floor naturally. These calculations work with any height! No need for a flat ground.

Actions can be found here (although I strongly suggest you watch the tutorial first:

If you like these custom actions and tutorials, feel pledge a few $ into my patreon account.

Playmaker Help / Unity List to Array or ArrayMaker
« on: June 08, 2017, 07:08:19 AM »
I am creating action for opsives third person controller (can be found here:

There is a method that returns a list of inventory items. I am trying to figure out how to get that list into a playmaker FSM array or arraymaker array.

void Opsive.ThirdPersonController.Inventory.GetAvailableItems ( ref List< ItemType >    itemTypes)

Returns a list of items which are currently available in the inventory.
itemTypes The list of items which are currently available.

Any ideas or examples?

Playmaker Tutorials / Ragdoll - Hit Reaction Manager (plus actions)
« on: May 25, 2017, 07:56:58 PM »

In this tutorial we look at getting hit reactions using the third party asset "Ragdoll - Hit Reaction Manager" along with playmaker. We use three methods to trigger hit reactions including setting a manual location, mouse click and raycast. Great for natural reactions to gunshots, collisions and other "hits".

I wrote some custom actions to work with this asset (and helper actions). You can download them for free from my github account, linked below.
