Playmaker Tutorials / Making 2d tutorials - interested?
« on: June 22, 2017, 12:43:56 PM »
First up, I posted something similar in response to an older thread within this topic, sorry for posting twice.

I have started making video tutorial that are focused on 2d game design and construction using playmaker. Thought I would create a quick thread to share what some of my plans are and see what the group thinks:

- 4 to 6 hrs of walkthrough based video tutorials
- Build challenges that will allow you to put into practice what you observed during the walkthrough videos by building things that are related to what you just watched. You would do your best to build and a solution video would be provided when you're done or when you're stuck.
- A learning community site where participants can learn from one another, new build challenges will be posted (and solved) and focused game design articles and discussions will be available.

I'm thinking of charging a one-time fee of $30 to gain access to the tutorials and learning community. What do you think? Would you pay $30 for something like this? What kind of game mechanics would you be interested in building?

Playmaker Help / Set color of a sprite directly (SOLVED)
« on: July 31, 2015, 08:30:08 AM »
I am trying to set the color of a sprite and not having any luck. This video explains what I'm trying to accomplish:

As you can see, I am trying to use Set Material Color to change the color of my "Dragon Health" sprite. Somehow, the color is changing to black instead of the color I want it to be (red).

In reading through the forum, it looks like I might need to set the desired color value to a variable and then set the color that way?? If that's correct, how is that accomplished?

What is the best place to check for the most up to date status on playmaker releases? Is it a git hub or the release notes or someplace else?

Playmaker Help / Transition issue - Is this a bug? (SOLVED)
« on: August 05, 2014, 03:17:23 PM »
I keep running into an issue when setting up a state that has two transitions:

I have two separate Trigger Events - one in the first transition and the other in the 2nd transition. I setup the Collide Tag in the first one. I then goto the second trigger event thats in the second transition and the things I setup in the first Trigger Event are appearing in the second one. Is this how Playmaker is supposed to work.

This video probably explains it better:

highly likely that I'm just not understanding some fundamental aspect of Playmaker.

Playmaker Help / A simple 2d collision[SOLVEd]
« on: August 05, 2014, 07:22:47 AM »
I can't seem to get my basic collision to work correctly. I want my sprite to translate up, hit an object that has a box collider on it, and reverse direction.

Here's what I did to try to make this work:

What am I missing?

Playmaker Help / Another Add Force question (SOLVED)
« on: August 01, 2014, 09:34:59 AM »
In searching around on the forum, I can see quite a few questions about the Add Force action and I have another.

I am trying to recreate the Will Goldstone tutorial from his book "Unity 3.x Game Development Essentials". It's the first walkthrough in that book where you make a wall and throw a sphere at it. I was able to get this tutorial to work ok in code, but didn't really understand what I was doing. I decided to see if I could figure out how to do it in Playmaker. I think my problems revolve around the Add Force action. I don't think I'm understanding how Unity adds force to things.

I made a video that shows what I've done so far:

Would really appreciate any suggestions on getting this to work correctly.

General Discussion / What does playmaker output?
« on: April 11, 2014, 07:23:36 AM »
I'm thinking that this question has been asked before, but I searched and was unable to find the answer:

 - What does PlayMaker output? Does it output Unity javascript or is it outputting C# or something else?

I'm wondering this because I've been playing with uScript and was disappointed to discover that it outputs C#. This is disappointing to me because C# is a huge programming language that I am not likely to grasp anytime soon.

I was hoping to use uScript in a way that it would allow me to build portions of logic that I didn't know how to script and then pop into the Unity JS file and write the parts that I know how to script.

Maybe this is a naive idea, but I'm wondering if this kind of workflow might be possible with PlayMaker?
