Playmaker Tutorials / Re: Making 2d tutorials - interested?

Thanks for the responses. If $30 seems too high, what do you think the sweet spot would be price-wise? I know I paid $25 for One Month Game School playmaker tutorials and got value from them.

@tcmeric - I noticed that you've been making tutorial videos that are quite well done. Did you put a playmaker/unity tutorial up on Udemy? How did it go?

Thanks for the short tutorials on YouTube tip. I have been thinking the same thing. I'm also considering just making my own site and driving traffic to it through the short YT tutorials so that Udemy doesn't get a cut. Should probably really do both and see which performs better...

Playmaker Tutorials / Making 2d tutorials - interested?

First up, I posted something similar in response to an older thread within this topic, sorry for posting twice.

I have started making video tutorial that are focused on 2d game design and construction using playmaker. Thought I would create a quick thread to share what some of my plans are and see what the group thinks:

- 4 to 6 hrs of walkthrough based video tutorials
- Build challenges that will allow you to put into practice what you observed during the walkthrough videos by building things that are related to what you just watched. You would do your best to build and a solution video would be provided when you're done or when you're stuck.
- A learning community site where participants can learn from one another, new build challenges will be posted (and solved) and focused game design articles and discussions will be available.

I'm thinking of charging a one-time fee of $30 to gain access to the tutorials and learning community. What do you think? Would you pay $30 for something like this? What kind of game mechanics would you be interested in building?

I had this same problem several months ago and so I've decided to start creating my own tutorial series on 2d games. I have a few ideas for how I'd like to do it, but would be interested in anyone's reactions to these ideas:

1. Put all tutorial videos up on YouTube for free
2. Tutorial assets, challenge build solutions and a learning community that would accompany the YouTube videos would be available for a one time fee of $30

Just put the thing up on Udemy for $30. Udemy's learning community features aren't the greatest, but I like their mobile apps and site.

I think when this tutorial is all said and done, there will be around 4-6 hrs worth of videos.

Pre-release Discussion / Re: 1.8 final release?
« on: September 09, 2015, 12:50:49 PM »
Thanks Jean. Sounds like Unity 5.x is causing issues with playmaker. Does it feel like all of those issues are quantified with a plan for addressing each of them? If so, is there a rough estimate for when everything will be taken care of? Is there anything that users can do to help with this effort?

I see that 1.8 beta is available - is beta testing a way that we could be helping at this point, or does Hutong feel like they're getting enough feedback from existing beta testers?

It's September already - crazy :o

Been a few months since I've seen any update on the status of 1.8. I feel like somehow I'm missing some source of information that's providing regular status updates.

Anyone mind filling me in on how things are going with 1.8 and when it might see the light of day?

Playmaker Help / Re: Set color of a sprite directly (SOLVED)

Thanks, but I can't take credit for those. They came from "The Gamemakers Apprentice" which is a book that teaches how to use Gamemaker to make this game and a bunch of others. Quite a useful book for graphics and stuff if you're trying to learn:

Nice! That totally worked - thank you so much. For anyone interested, here's how to drag the sprite renderer into the state and set the color property how djaydino suggested:

Thanks again!

Playmaker Help / Set color of a sprite directly (SOLVED)
« on: July 31, 2015, 08:30:08 AM »
I am trying to set the color of a sprite and not having any luck. This video explains what I'm trying to accomplish:

As you can see, I am trying to use Set Material Color to change the color of my "Dragon Health" sprite. Somehow, the color is changing to black instead of the color I want it to be (red).

In reading through the forum, it looks like I might need to set the desired color value to a variable and then set the color that way?? If that's correct, how is that accomplished?

Playmaker Announcements / Re: Best place to check for release status?

Thank you!

What is the best place to check for the most up to date status on playmaker releases? Is it a git hub or the release notes or someplace else?

Playmaker Help / Re: UI and GUI big problems[SOLVED]

I spoke too soon. Jean's video didnt quite explain what I was trying to do, but it did help me to get unstuck.

I'm going through Brandon Wu's tutorial ( and I was stuck trying to figure out how to get a piece of UI text to update each time the Kenney character collided with a coin sprite.

I was able to get the text to update. Here's how:

Yes! This is close. I need two collisions, but if I can get one to work, I can get the other.

Playmaker Help / Re: [SOLVED]Trigger 2D Event ignoring Collide Tag
« on: August 07, 2014, 06:51:20 AM »
Jean - I think the answer you gave Dreamwriter might be the solution to my problems as well (, but I'm not quite following your fix suggestion.

When you said, "create a brand new local event "MY TRIGGER" and use that in the action, it will work." Does that mean that you're asking Dreamwriter to create an event and then add the "Trigger 2d Event" action to the State? Or are you saying that Unity automatically detects the trigger event and so the "Trigger 2d Event" action isn't needed?

Can you clarify?
