Hi Jean,

I would like to know, how you use XML in your own projects. You create a XML file and fill it with the needed data. After that do you implement this XML file in the unity app and parse it every time it is running? Or do you load the XML one time a change was made and convert it in another format for further use at runtime? I have the feeling parsing a big XML all runtime isn't the best way. But I have no clue.

Or do you use a XML for an at runtime populated database?

I updated PlayMaker today and found a little issue regarding this new feature.

If I press Escape the filter is cleared and the window loses focus. So I can't type something new without clicking inside the Action Browser again.

what you are looking for is called a Singleton.

Jean made a custom action to help achieve this behavior. It's available on the Ecosystem.
This topic might also be helpful.

Just make a Prefab out of the object which contains the FSMs and place it in all scenes you want to use it. If you want to reference it from other FSMs, search for the object (e.g. by tag) the FSM is sitting on and get the FSM. This FSM should call on start the action Singleton Manager with its own unique reference. So if you load an new scene this Prefab checks if there is an object with the same reference and if so it destroys itself. So only the object that already exists in the scene (from the last scene) will remain in the scene.

I also use Easy Save 2. It's a fantastic asset with lots of features.

If you download ES2 now a beta of ES3 is included. The new version does lots of things even better with less actions. ES2 cluttered playMaker with an enormous number of actions while ES3 e.g. only uses one for setting all kind of data. It's really neat.
If you start now with ES you should use ES3 because you'll not be able to load files saved with ES2 in ES3. Just a warnig. :)

If you check Mouse Wheel Scrolls Graph View in the Preferences you can scroll the state machine in the view vertically. It would be consistent to allow horizontal scrolling too, like other programs do. For example Photoshop: If you hold Ctrl the image scrolls horizontally. Because in this case, if the option mentioned above is checked, the Graph View zooms in and out while holding down Ctrl, it would be also okay to use Shift for horizontal scrolling (in both cases of this option).

It's just a suggestion for better user experience. :)

That's true.

For the moment I would edit the title of the action and append the name of the targeted FSM for example.

I stumbled over an issue which can cause an accidental change of the order of actions in the Inspector Panel.

How to reproduce:
  • Open a state machine in the Playmaker Editor
  • Ensure to have a few actions in the current selected state
  • Click on the scroll bar of the Graph View and drag it
  • While dragging the scroll bar move the mouse over the header of any action in the Inspector Panel
Now the mouse cursor changes to the drag and drop cursor for reordering actions. If there is no action selected while following the steps above, nothing visible happens. (But sometimes one of the actions will be duplicated.) If there is an action selected while following the steps above, you can reorder the actions accidentally. And sometimes you wouldn't even notice it in the first place because you probably look at the Graph View.


Now I was able to reproduce the duplicate action issue mentioned above. If you first try the steps above without any action selected and after that with an action selected, the action will be duplicated.
