Installing Photon Help
« on: June 15, 2016, 04:32:08 PM »
hey Guys
I have been now trying for couple of weeks  to install Photon without any success

I keep getting lots of errors no matter what I do... :(

I work in unity 5.3.4f1 and  Playmaker 1.7.8.3p2
I have now finished game and ready for adding multiplayer to it so installing photon as a clean install is out of question...

first I tried installing photon from asset stores but that did not work
then I tried installing photon via ecosystem that did not work either...
nor installing it from the playmaker website ...

after installing ecosystem I get Json parsing error.
and after installing Pun via ecosystem I get even more errors.

also tried installing latest playmaker version into a clean project but when i add Photon I get same errors ...

I just dont seem to be able to install together playmaker and photon without some kind of conflict

does anyone knows why is this not working?

can you please help I am now getting desperate  :'(  :'(  :'(

Hi Dude,

Sorry to hear about all the trouble you have been having.
I know how frustrating it can be when something isn't working.

I created a blank scene with the latest playmaker version.
I did try and use the ecosystem but couldn't get it. I was getting the parsing error that you got.

But I did manage to get it working.

Try this link:
https://github.com/jeanfabre/PlayMakerCustomActions_U4/raw/master/PlayMaker/Ecosystem/Custom%20Packages/ExitGames/PlayMakerPUN.unitypackage

Its the first package from playmaker website:
PlayMakerPUN.unitypackage
https://hutonggames.fogbugz.com/default.asp?W928

Let me know how you go. Try using it in your empty project first so that it's easy to fix if you have any errors.

Hi,

Ok, you'll need to do the following:

-- Delete the "Photon Unity Networking" folder
-- In the Plugins folder, clean up all photon related dlls.
-- Import Photon from the AssetStore
-- Import from the wiki, IMPORT the Version for Unity 5!!

https://hutonggames.fogbugz.com/?W928

Then, let me know exactly what errors you get, and we'll progress this way.

 Bye,

 Jean

empty project was imported with  latest version of Playmaker .... and link to pun you have provided...

I really need to keep on moving, but still stuck at installing photon with playmaker, I am  extremely frustrated ... If anyone had same issue please let me know what to do, because I have no clue ,except to get rid of playmaker and don't use it in production....and I don't really want to go down that route...

it seems  impossible to import a photon without errors thrown by playmaker :(

Hello, I see you are using Playmaker 1.7.8.3 with Unity 5.3+, maybe this is an issue as you must use the new Playmaker for Unity 5.3+ versions, now PM 1.8.1 is out of beta is pretty stable, perhaps there are internal stuff that conflict in this matter?

thanks for your reply , I am hoping that, using   1.7 version of playmaker is not the reason but might be possible, I  found hard way that upgrading an almost finished project is never good idea ...I am likely to end up with even more errors ... plus the new ver of playmaker has a bit different way of using get and set and so on... I am worried it might throw my project in the chaos

Hi,

Indeed, 1,8 is mandatory for any Project starting from Unity 5.3.

If that's the case stick to a less than 5.3 version of Unity to finish your project maybe?

Hey jean ,
after following this instructions I get following errors

1. Backup your project before proceeding!
2. Move PlayMaker/Resources/PlayMakerGlobals.asset out of the PlayMaker folder, into another "Resources" Folder. It's important that it remains in a "Resources" folder as it is a special folder within Unity.
3. Move PlayMaker/Templates folder outside of the PlayMaker folder if you have saved templates (this is the default folder for saved templates)
4. Delete the PlayMaker/ folder
5. Delete Plugins/PlayMaker/ folder if it exists
6. Import the latest version of PlayMaker
7. Restart Unity

Question;

Before Upgrading to 1.8 ... I have inside  Resources folder only this file "PlayMakerAssemblies" , I did take it out, and placed it into another folder, do I move it back into Resources folder after upgrade? which is inside  Editor in version 1.8? right?

Errors;

Assets/PlayMaker/Actions/LoadLevel.cs(63,67): error CS0117: `SceneManager' does not contain a definition for `LoadSceneAsync'

Assets/PlayMaker/Actions/LoadLevel.cs(74,30): error CS0117: `SceneManager' does not contain a definition for `LoadScene'

Assets/PlayMaker/Actions/LoadLevel.cs(85,51): error CS0117: `SceneManager' does not contain a definition for `LoadSceneAsync'

Assets/PlayMaker/Actions/LoadLevel.cs(96,34): error CS0117: `SceneManager' does not contain a definition for `LoadScene'

how do I fix those thanks

Has anyone ever upgraded an existing project from 1.7 to 1.8?

I have tried upgrading,
I have tried even starting with a clean project with playmaker and photon installed , but the moment I add my project
I get this error

Assets/PlayMaker/Actions/LoadLevel.cs(63,67): error CS0117: `SceneManager' does not contain a definition for `LoadSceneAsync'

what does it mean ?

it appears even if I remove all references to playmaker in my scripts
I am going crazy lol

please tell me how did you fix the errors
I am desperate

thanks

Hi,

Can you explain how you add your project when PlayMaker and Photon are installed?

It looks to me like a conflict potential in another asset of your project, or you did not clean up PlayMaker properly.

Maybe we should organize a skype call so that we can share screen and I can debug your project.

pm me with your skype id and we'll organize a meeting.

Bye,

 Jean

I find it impossible to upgrade to 1.81

the point is when upgrading playmaker from 1.7 I never get that pop up window with a patch to install 1.8.1, the one  that you get with a clean install..

with upgrade I don't seem to be able to install anything but 1.7.8

as I said even if I delete everything in my folder, somehow playmaker seem to know its been there before, and refuses to behave same way as it would with a clean install.

also there is an installer for 1.8.1 inside edit folder but that also only install 1.78 version of playmaker for some reason, nothing makes sense anymore.

how do I force it to install 1.8.1....

thanks Bernd

I think I need to close this topic, because it was about installing photon originally
which turned into upgrading a playmaker into  1.8

and the topic could be now confused and might not be getting any help because it refers to photon... but at this stage I need to upgrade playmaker first ...

thanks

p.s I should probably start another topic with Upgrading to 1.8.1
