Object triggers another without a character controler

I've been using PM for awhile and I thought this was straight forward but I'm missing something.

 I want to trigger an event when two cubes meet.. the only thing is that one of the cubes is just a child of an object that has a "mouse look" on it. so when the object spins around and comes into contact with the trigger I want it to fire an event.

 This seems so simple but I can't get it to work.

Imagine someone holding  a stick with a ball on the end. they can turn around 360 and when it hits a wall I just want it to tell me.
