Title: How to solve get_realtimeSinceStartup called during serialization

I"m using a createObject action in an fsm which is now giving me the following error.

I've read the documentation which says that creating an object outside of a Start or Awake method will cause this error.

My understanding of fsms is that they run after the parent "Start" method is called.

If that is the case, why would this error be happening?

Is there something else I should be doing to instantiate objects in an fsm?

get_realtimeSinceStartup is not allowed to be called during serialization, call it from Awake or Start instead. Called from MonoBehaviour 'PlayMakerFSM' on game object 'Canvas_Tools'.
