Title: Playmaker "Academic" - Limitations?
Post by: Whiskan on March 11, 2014, 09:44:15 AM
Good Morning!

I've recently picked up a copy of the "Academic" version of playmaker from this link: http://www.studica.com/PlayMaker (http://www.studica.com/PlayMaker)

Unfortunately for me, the official Playmaker download (Unity Asset Store) just went on sale today, so I'm curious if there are any differences between my student version and the version you buy on the asset store.

For instance: Can I still sell games I've made using Academic edition? Are all features fully available/functional? Are there are core differences?

If anyone can answer these questions, or direct me to some more information, I'd be greatly appreciative!

Thanks!

im in the same boat.

if i knew it would go on sale,i would have waited a few days.

but as far as i know,we can do any thing we like with our version.
I might be wrong though.

Its cheaper because we use it for education?...or because we are students?

It's technically not even cheaper right now - the sale on unity store has it for 65% off (35$) where I paid almost 60$ on studica. I don't use Playmaker for education, but I am a student - I was able to purchase it as an English Major.

I've did a quick forum search and all I can find is that some people have "issues" based on their academic edition. The specifics aren't quite clear. One person mentioned they couldn't use custom actions - which I will need. Another person thought they had a problem, but they were just going about their situation wrong and it turned up to be false pretence.

Anyone else have any info?

As far as i know, the download is the same(would be stupid if it wasnt) and not being able to use custom actions might just be that they imported it wrong?

I have not yet tryd any custom actions(that i know of).
Id like to try though, but i have none.

Hi,

Indeed, I think the student version doesn't allow for custom actions, I think this is the only restriction.

bye,

I'm not home yet.

But if this https://hutonggames.fogbugz.com/default.asp?W540 (https://hutonggames.fogbugz.com/default.asp?W540) custom action works in the education version, than we are able to use custom actions.

I did modify a existing script to my liking, doesnt that also count as custom action?

I used this custom action to open a web page.Seems to work just fine.

What version are you using?(unity/playmaker)

Contacted hutonggames, the only limitation the education version has,is the license for publishing.
