Title: 2D with Playmaker?
Post by: calaverax on January 31, 2014, 06:39:58 PM
Hi everyone!

I've never used playmaker before, i've heard of it, and it seems to be awesome.

I'm dedicating only to 2D games, i'm an indie developer, (Programmer) and i dont know much about 3d.

Is playmaker viable for 2D games? AS IT, without any other assets, or its more viable for 3d games?

Thanks in advance!

Yes it is very viable, I recommend using 2D Toolkit

That's why i asked if its viable "As It" with the native 2d support of unity from 4.3, i'm from Argentina, and i can afford the $25 that is today but not tomorrow $100, plus $65 of 2d toolkit, here is a lot of money :(

Thanks anyways!

It is viable as is without 2DTK, It's just easier to do 2D inside of unity with it.
The newest version of Unity has native support for 2D and there's documentation on it so yes it is quite good for it as is

I work with PlayMaker for 3D games, but as I'm working, I often think to myself "if my next game is 2D, how would I make a similar function?"

I think that 90% of the FSMs I create with PlayMaker could easily be converted to be used in 2D. I'd say yes, PlayMaker is good for 2D (especially since Unity supports 2D now as well, as Adam said)
