Title: Animation software for Kid
Post by: qholmes on February 25, 2012, 11:22:10 AM
So a friend asked me what software would be best for his son who is i think about 10.. Really wants to do animation on the computer.. All he wanted for christmas.

Any suggestions?

I suggested Blender. I took a quick look at it. Seems like it can do almost anything but i dont know anything about it really except that i hear about it now and then which is a good sign.

But maybe there are other alternatives out there. He is willing to pay something like $100 or so if it is better. They built a nice machine together to use for it so power should not be a problem.

Thanks

For a 10 years old guy i will first let him play with some free 2d animation sw, like http://plasticanimationpaper.dk/ then after a year i will show him Maya.
You can start animating in minutes. Here is a video of a young girl using Maya..  it looks like a commercial, but it may be usefull for your friend: There is a trial version and with a student option you can have the full software for free.

Blender will be an option? let's say.. Linux will be an option, but if you want all easy better to choose windows, macos, capito?
