Title: Dot Notes
Post by: craigz on August 29, 2021, 05:23:32 PM
When organizing graphs, I often create what I call 'buffer' states to nicely organize the flow of logic. They are essentially just blank states that I use to route the connection curves nicely around in 👌

I think it (if it could be performant) it would be rad to be able to get these natively in PM but with similar functionality of how they are in the compositing software Nuke.

Essentially you can hold ctrl and place a dot on any line to quickly organize flow.

I think many people would love such an option.
There's one little problem with the proposed solution since it forces several flow paths into one knot, which in this case acts like a blank state.
An ideal solution which would require more work on the UI front and the calculation of geometric curves would allow paths to run in parallel around a knot, acting as a roundabout, but never fusing into each other.
This drawing function is in fact a separate concept where the smaller, and perhaps older and with the highest starting point, would be located inside the curve, and any further line that would have occupied the same line space would now position itself with an offset of a few pixels, creating concentric lines.

I would like to see this as I do create dummy states at times. +1
