Title: OUYA ODK actions
Post by: cel on March 27, 2013, 09:54:25 PM
as the title says, any chance of having the in-app methods of the odk into pm actions?   https://devs.ouya.tv/developers/docs/purchasing

Hi,

Interesting, tho I tend to be careful when too much technologies goes visible, if you read the doc on Unity and how to set it up, it definitly sounds like your regular linux set up mess... so I would wait to see how the unity community reacts to this before throwing time and effort at this.

Have you succesfully pre ordered one?

bye,

 Jean

Hi,

Cool, I have looked at it some more, sound interesting, but I am not sure I can do much without a device right?

do you have already some kind of emulator running within Unity?

 Jean

you don't really need an emulator, the odk has a unity scene called facade where you can test the IAP... you can register as a developer and download the odk for free, you'll need to have an android licence for unity tough...

Hi,

Ok, I see, but xbox doesn't have a touch pad... and the ouya has one right?

Yeah it's great. I have my game running on it but no controls work yet, so i just get the main menu.

Here's the example videos and docs for how the ODK is being used in unity.  Perhaps someone smart can traslate them into playmaker actions

Hi,

That's something I hope will be happening soon. I am currently not having enought free time to tackle this. Maybe one day. Actually my kids are getting into games and all, I could get them a ouya for a start :)

Bye,

Hi,

Just got back from Unite, and I met with the ouya team, and they will likely sponsor me with a ouya and one to one support to get this done. So I'll keep you up to date as this collabaration progress. They are of course interested in having the PlayMaker developers as integrated as possible with the ouya, so stay tuned! It's coming up.

 Bye,

 Jean

Hi,

It feels as if they are a bit hesitant/passive actually. I would strongly suggest you make yourself heard by contacting ouya people and explain that you want PlayMaker support, that would definitly make them aware of the potential.

 Bye,

 Jean

Just posted the following at the ouya forum...

"How about helping jean at the playmaker forums in developing a set of Playmaker actions for the ouya??? The community would certainly appreciate that!!!"

Lets all do the same...

Hi,

Well. Yes that's a possibility, but it would be difficult to manage if it doesn't reach the required amount. I guess I could start a kickstarter small project with with around $500 to cover the cost and some development hours along the way. What do you think about that?

I guess the best way also , as I said, is to contact Ouya people as they actually sounded interested in collaborating, but, they are a bit silent now... :) You can reference me in your emails. I talked to them at Unite.

The kickstart project sounds good... you should go ahead with it... you already have a backer...

Is there any news on this?

Hi,

It's bit dead on that front unfortunatly. You should also contact Ouya to express your will to work with PlayMaker and Ouya.

I am all up for this, but collaboration is important to get this done properly.

I have added this to the trello board:

https://trello.com/c/8juXkbZn/17-ouya

Please up vote this feature so we can see interest and prioritize work.

 Bye,

 Jean

Sucks that this has hit a snag. I'll definitely try to contact OUYA after I announce my game for the platform. I want to put my game on Ouya but I have no idea how I can implement the IAP, haha.

Hi,

Don't wait before contacting them, else it's going to delay even more things.

Problem is I don't actually know how to code, Playmaker has spoiled me lol

I don't know how I can implement IAP for Ouya, but I guess I'll have to at least learn how to connect the OUYA IAP scripts.

I just read that Ouya is removing their requirenment for a free version of the games. So I think this could make the platform more interesting as it removes the problem of abysmal conversion rates to purchases. So how difficult would it be to port a PC game to Ouya that runs almost completely on Playmaker actions?

The first big problem I see is re-mapping the controls to the Ouya controler from from WASD+Number Keys+LMB. Will there be some custom actions for that?

The second challenge would be adapting the menu system to work with a controller instead of mouse button clicks. However since my menu is really simple maybe the "mouseclicks" could be done on the touchscreen?

This seems tempting to try out. he he

Playmaker's mousepick actions also register as touches. Gamepad mapping could be as simple as changing Unity's input manager settings. However your UI would probably need significant changes to work with gamepads.
