Great! Good luck with the sales, I am sure you will have a good xmas with this :)

Also, maybe this would be a great case to distribute the trial version of PlayMaker with it so that users who install this without PlayMaker won't get any error and a fully working set of scenes. Users will be able to play scenes, view all fsm, publish  but they won't be able to edit.

pm me if you need more details

 Bye,

 Jean

I don't need car asset at the moment, but I've played with it a bit in a web demo and it feels good. One feature I would recommend for future updates is a more advance camera control, maybe even a couple of different camera behaviors. Look for inspiration in racing games and games like gta.

Really glad that people are started making full assets with playmaker.

Hi,
yes, I made a manual how to prepare your own car to work with the CarController, I will include it in the update,
To get it sooner, please send me a request with your Invoice number to my support email.

A preview how to set-up your own car can be also found on a  User made Youtube tutorials (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAManq04xnttievrXFFCqww) (thanks to Chris),
this will slightly change after the updated CarController which supports car changing feature.

Hi,
At 00:13 did you create a car AI system where in that example the car randomly decides which red point it wants to drive around or at?
The AI decides which waypoint to drive at, not random, it loops through all waypoints one by one until the loop starts over (a next lap).

Hi are you using array to make ai way point system
Not using arrays, car follows spheres as waypoints prepared for desired track.

not planned at the moment, but I think it will be ok to use the same setup for truck or a bus, just need to prepare the model accordingly (speed limits, acceleration etc.).

HI i have tested ai on mobile it was heavy on mobile devices i have placed 4 ai and one player fps was 18 on average.
Title: Re: Car Setup for PlayMaker [Asset]
Post by: 600 on April 07, 2015, 06:59:16 AM
Hi, thanks for reporting,

yes I tested with 4 AI and it lags a bit, this could be optimized for example, wheel suspension raycast set extra frames to skip, or AI reactions reduce to fewer frames.
But the main "problem" here I believe is because this asset was made for standalone version and later I changed to mobile shaders + controls.
Building a mobile game I would use more simple 3d models, models in the asset are with doors, trunk, hood, functional windows, interior to show all the possible features you can use.

Another heavy thing is that all objects are loaded in one scene, I am working on the Unity 5 edition, where you load menu, then choose car and later load the actual race scene, this will optimize recource loading too.

AI is planned to improve to work better with mobile.

[!] Downloaded a test and “Project Settings” won’t import while still on the list.
I don’t know yet if this is changed now or it’s a bug,
if you encounter this, download here (http://www.pamani.net/Unity/ProjectSettings1-3.zip) Project Settings files needed for the asset.

Hi, so what is going on:

Rebuilding Unity 5 version, while adding new features, transition from Unity 4, onGui to uGui and learning new Unity/Playmaker stuff every day, I decided it is a good move.
I will use this asset in my game too so I'm interested it to be better and smoother as a base setup.

Thank you for your feedbacks here and emails, now I know what things I have to highlight in ReadMe docs/FSMs for more straight forward custom setups.

Hi, updated the post with a poll,
question: Is it ok to remove the old asset pack for Unity 4 from Asset Store this August?

As the asset being continued on Unity 5, I find it confusing that this pack is available from Unity 4.3, but the latest features need Unity 5 at the end.

Support will continue for Unity 4 and in case to get the old pack I can send it directly, main purpose for this is to clean Asset Store version and avoid confusion.

Your thoughts?
Thanks!

i think you dont need to put two different versions , make unity pack in separate folder so who like to use old can unpack and use the old one

Since not everyone desires to use Unity 5, would be better to come up of a way to still make it compatible with version 4. Whether it's 4.3 or 4.6.

Thanks for your votes, I will keep the old pack available and voting too incase you upgrade.
But it will not be compatible with the new asset update, it is made in Unity 5  :-[
Support remains for the old pack, you can contact me if you need assistance replicating features from Unity 5 to 4. I can send you assets as .unitypack in case OS not supporting the new Unity.

First post edit.

Update is live and still with the lower price as there are some issues with the price change system, got resubmitted and approved two times now, but it did not change.

Contacted the Asset Store Team, while we resolve this, enjoy the “extended” sale :D

24h SALE! ($10)

And it turns out price was locked before going to sale,
so it is 50% from $19.99 :D !

Hi,
will check it out, I had some tests in Unity 4, but left it a side at that time and focused on the car setup. Could make it, not sure when yet :)

While you're here may i consult something with you?
As you've gained a lot of experience in vehicle physics i feel i can ask you:
- how do you think a can approach arcade racing physics and their drift mechanics?
By arcade i mean exactly the sega racers style of gameplay... i've asked this question at the Unity forums a couple of years back and basically got ridiculed.
Following are a few examples of what i mean:

Scud Race sega model 3 (https://youtu.be/FfM9pmPiT_k)

Daytona USA model 2 (https://youtu.be/I43WXMyhAKw?t=199)

sega rally 1994 model 2 (https://youtu.be/qZZeNmuEgUc?t=75)

and the more recent examples

90s arcade racer (https://youtu.be/RpjHlBvTCck) is an indie game that manages (at least on the videos) to capture the gameplay i refer to.
Space Dust (https://youtu.be/LG1CtlFRmpU) here the creators explain about making a kart racing style physics, i understand some of it.

So what do you think, can you give me any pointers or ideas?

Thanks

Edit: added some pictures for easier visualization... and i didn't notice that all the pics are from the same angle :D

Hi,

Actually never tried to make one in arcade style physics.
Daytona memories… :D
Anyway I tried to achieve something like this with CarSetup pack, had some results, this is a few hour work and is far from polished.

Youtube Link (http://youtu.be/povIQbH2wv4)

Also gave it a try making a new setup with force and force torque like Space Dust, I get the basic setup and how it should react. The actual gas (push forward force) is relative to camera direction + force Self Z and force torque on Y axis Self, results where nice until in high speeds it got bumpy, had no suspension just a cube with 4 sphere colliders :)

The third version I believe is to cheat it all, a quick idea - object in size of road (width) that follows a track path. With player input control a car (inside the object) by translate or other move/rotate etc, also could use FloatSpring for shaking values.

If you want to try it out with CarSetup pack, PM me your email - will pack my test and send to you.

I love how this looks, great work. If we can only make the direction of the slide controllable... maybe using your other methods below

does it work? in space dust it looks like they solved the bumpiness issue with the raycast suspension (which i still dont understand)

i noticed that in some arcade racers in the straight parts of the track you cant drift and the steering is stiff, but once you enter a corner suddenly the steering angle is wider and the drifting is activated...

Cool work man!

I have no experience with UE4, but I guess you could use wheel colliders as they are raycasts. Or if the game setup allows, use joints with physical wheel. These are just simple thoughts, but if it works :)
Yes the test was working, needs much more polishing to change values like steering and power at runtime based on grounded status, speed etc.

Nice catch, did not notice that. This can be set as trigger zones on the track to change control values, actually the same thing could be applied for physical setups. I believe there will be more little tricks to achieve desired gameplay either it is physical setup or not.

Exactly, the other night i noticed the same in Highway 2000 on the Saturn. Obviously this is an old budget Japanese title, but the control is solid... and as always we have to look for inspiration in the least expected places.

I did the test with Unity 5 pack  :-\
With U46 there will be slightly different values as there are no Transmission and wheel colliders are different in their behaviour.
I can send you screenshots of my current setup to compare concepts or do you have Unity 5 too, to test it?

Hello,

AI base is similar as players setup with added raycasts for obstacle detection. There are additional 5 FSMs controlling behaviours and calculating inputs:
Movement, Steering, Waypoints, Raycasts, Stuck (when stuck for x seconds, it drives in reverse adjusting steering).
These FSMs feeds CarController’s input values depending on turn angle and obstacles.

Added preview images how they look like zoomed out :)

Thanks really appreciated! I will pick some of you knowledge about AI :-) Heavily interested in how approach challenges with Physics interfering with AI. I'm working on a prototype (using another Car Physic System atm bc it was free on Level Eleven a while ago) trying to wrap my head around a good solution for production current status can be seen here

Hello Jim,

Yes, every new update will come in new folder, you are free to move and combine all in to one folder. There will be another update soon (already pending) for mobile steering wheel fix.

When importing or combining folders remember to make a backup first ;)

Hi!

I really love this setup you have made, it is great.

One thing I am trying to figure out is how to create an anti-roll.
I would also like to be able to adjust where the center of gravity is but can not figure out how to do that in playmaker.

Would you be able to give any tips on this?

I am quite advanced with playmaker, however I am new to car physics.

Cheers.
Jasper.

Hey thanks!

The centre of gravity is set in car’s SETUP FSM (Rigidbody CentrOfMass) and for anti roll there is a force component on the car. Depends what concepts your game allow, you can also stabilise by adding additional primitive colliders in front or rear to change vehicle behaviours.
More advanced anti-roll would be to apply a force on each wheel in opposite direction the car is leaning, I am thinking about this feature and other details like ability to make a line lock, I am collecting various edits to make CarSetup v2 in the future.

A quick note:
Now PlayMaker 1.8.1 have Vector2, Quaternion and Trigonometry actions included by default, importing the Car Setup asset uncheck the following actions (found in a folder PlaymakerCustomActions):

- SmoothLookAt2d.cs
- GetAtan2FromVector2.cs
- GetVector2XY.cs
- Vector2RotateTowards.cs

I am currently working on a new package to upload to the Asset Store to fix this and it will be reviewed by Unity in about next weeks time.

- Would touch controls work Like with Easy Touch Asset
- Would it be possible to control the speed of car in game or while racing or completely automated ?

Was thinking to build a simple racing game with your asset using playmaker so could you please help me answer the above queries as that would help me moving ahead with my gaming project .....

hope to get a reply soon .

Hello,

- Yes you can make a racing game with this, there are a race mode with AI as an example to get you started.
Check out demos for a preview:
- There are touch controls included. I don’t have the Easy Touch Asset so I can not comment how to use it with this asset. Perhaps not needed and can go with the included touch system.

- Yes you can change transmissions, power and max speed in game for each vehicle.

I have downloaded both pc & android version thought both are working smooth but some how the car controls are not that smooth ..... like while the car is running at high speed if we take a turn using hand break then car stops while taking the turn .... so thats really annoying why is that happening ? as if a car stops while taking a turn in race then it would be impossible for a play to win in a race ?

so could you tell me is there any way possible to make the control of car smooth like in asphalt 8 or asphalt nitro ???

Demos are with my settings how I find them convenient, you can adjust all parts for the controller for your requirements: power, wheel friction, brake/handbrake values, steering and so on. There are different settings for various games, Asphalt looks more arcade style, so you can adjust values to make it feel like that.

Hey there! Great asset with Car Setup!

I'm having 1 main issue though (sorry, new to this forum and not sure where to post).

I've also purchased the SimpleTown and SimplePeople assets and the ModularTraffic asset. I'm trying to get the demo of SimpleTraffic working (the Car Setup scene) and all of the roads are missing? It says "missing prefab"?

I guess I could just snap in some road assest from the SimpleTown asset? Or would I use the road assets from the ModularTraffic? And why are the roads missing? :)

Thanks for the advice!

Hi,

Thank you for the purchase!

Here are how to import all together:

1. Import and install the Playmaker
2. Modular Traffic
3. Car Setup
4. Simple Town + People
5. in the Modular Traffic asset there will be SimpleTraffic.zip, place the zip somewhere and unzip, then Import the package, there will be prefabs and demo scene prepared.

Let me know how it goes, also you can contact me on support@pamani.net

Thank-you kindly for the advice! This is the furthest I've come to getting that particular scene working.

So basically, I have the "SimpleTrafficDemo" scene working but it's giving me the top-down view with only the option to add cars and pedestrians. When I play the standalone version, it actually allows me to select a vehicle and race around the SimpleTown with SimplePeople all walking around.

Is there a scene in this demo package that combines all 3 assets just like in the standalone example?

Thank-you again so much for the help. I'm very new with Unity.

So I did a fresh import of my own steps  :D and turns out that scene you want gets overwritten when SimpleTraffic zip is imported, so to fix it - go to CarSetup folder 02_Scenes and delete "SimpleTrafficDemo" scene and its Folder. Then import Car Setup again - it will let you import just that missing scene with its folder.

What Unity are you using, in Unity 5.4 I get 1 weird error on Simple Town mesh, to avoid it disable its collider for now.

Hi!

I really enjoy working with your assets! I’ve been using Modular Traffic and Car Setup for a few months now and they’ve made a huge impact in my game!

I am running into one issue with Car Setup however that I’m hoping you may be able to help with. I’ve noticed that when I need to backup my vehicle using keyboard controls the arrow down key won’t always respond until I tap the arrow up key. When this occurs no amount of pushing the arrow down key will move the car backwards, but once I tap the arrow up key and then return to the arrow down key, then the vehicle will move backward. Any idea how I can fix this so that the arrow down key will work reliably?

Hi,

Have you changed something in FSM? Or maybe input manager got adjusted, the sensitivity/gravity for Vertical axis? From your description, if you need to hit Up again, then my guess goes to Vertical input sensitivity/gravity.
If not input, vehicle drives backwards when it’s Z velocity goes below 0.5, maybe when you first hit arrow down, brake state happens? Could try to adjust that compare value before brakes.
If you want to share a screenshot of your FSM setup so I can take a look, please feel free to contact me on support email.

Thank you for the suggested places to look! My settings were all still the original settings, but hunting in that area caused me to examine what was going on a bit closer and I discover that the state machine was getting hung up for a bit on the Brake state and not releasing off of that for up to a second sometimes (which in the heat of the game felt longer). I simply added a Get Key Up action with a Finished event and everything seems to be running as expected now!

Do you mean this asset (http://u3d.as/fZC)? I don’t have it to test, but as for driving there should be no problems, perhaps only thing that could need a custom logic are AI waypoints, if they are streamed with the map or instantiated on runtime.

For this you can adjust Drag on rigidbody component, how much air resistant it is + set high brake value on wheel colliders when exit a car, like auto-parking brakes that’s how I did for my game. If you need even sharper stop, could set velocity to 0.
This is a custom logic, not included in the asset.

Hello 600, I've been wanting to buy your asset for quite some time, now that I am starting work on a racing game I've been trying some assets for custom vehicle creation.

I have seen your video on how to set up a new vehicle, but still i don't know how difficult it is.

I Will be able to implement vehicles easily, with my own custom meshes?

And I will be able to customize max speed/the type of wheel drive and so on?

Thanks in advance!

Hello,
You can change max speed and behaviors for wheel colliders directly. And if you change to other mesh, just adjust positions of wheel colliders and other details like camera positions. Please not that this is a template and not an editor asset for example like Edy Vehicle Physics. So you edit all values inside dedicated FSMs or on wheel colliders. If there are any questions about specific values that you are looking for when working with the asset, feel free to hit me a message on support email, which is on PDF inside the asset files.

This looks great. I want to purchase but just want to make sure I can use my own inputs (console controllers). Will this work on consoles too? I’ll be able to just add this logic to any car mesh huh. That’s cool. Lastly are you going to continue support ? Hate to buy a asset that developer abandons lol! It’s happened to me before. Let me know. Thanks!

Hello,
Currently it is mapped with default Unity input system, by adding Rewired or other plugin that support controllers it should work, only will need to change input actions like default GetAxis to Rewired PlayerGetAxis (for example).

I have not tested on consoles, the asset use some Set/Get Property actions and if I'm not mistaken those can not be present for console builds, so would need to look up or create custom actions for those mechanics. For example in the asset gas and brake use SetProperty, when I created the asset there was no dedicated actions for it, but I know now there are on Playmaker Ecosystem, but did not update to not brake anything for current users. For PC/Mac builds it still works.

Can use the system for other mesh indeed, there is even a Blank prefab with all wheels/moving parts ready where you can then adjust/parent custom mesh to work with.

I have supported the asset since release in December 2014, Unity 4.
Though currently I do not plan to add any additional new features.
Support is still there, contact me on support email or forums any time.

Hi.
For the Set/Get Property you can also use Linker Wizard (http://hutonggames.com/playmakerforum/index.php?topic=11126.0) if you have issues.

Hi!
Are the controller variables exposed?
I mean, if I want to do something with this in VR, by creating my own driving wheel, can I then connect it to your input variables to make it work, or are the controls hard coded and the variables hidden?

Hello, all variables are open for edit, made directly in Playmaker and using together with Unity default input system.

ok. welp, I just bought it. loaded into my project. and immediately i get 25 critical errors. can't even run play mode.

So i deleted your folder and now my game runs in play mode but SUPER SLOW. and my camera is no longer following my character for some reason. thankfully i make a backup of my project every week. so i will be able to revert back. I will open a back up and ONLY import the prefab of the car and report back. why is all this happening? I haven't made any other changes other than importing your asset.

Title: Re: Car Setup for PlayMaker [Asset]
Post by: 600 on October 27, 2021, 12:18:35 AM
Best is to import it in new project ans see how it works, then port in yours. Because the asset may use some layers or tags and depending on your own setup might override or break things. Here are import notes:

Car Setup import notes:

#1 - create a new 3d project in Unity
#2 - open Asset store inside Unity (Window>Asset Store)
#3 - import Car Setup asset
#4 - import PlayMaker
#5 - install PlayMaker manually from folder Assets/Playmaker/Editor/Install, double click on Playmaker package

Between steps be sure to wait Unity compile, the loading icon right bottom corner of the Unity UI

I’m very far into development of my game and have several layers and tags and cameras. Wouldn’t it just be easier to import the prefab of the car? Either way I’ll take a deeper look into this I kind of have to because my project is not broken basically.   I will take a deep dive and try to fix it and I’m sure your asset is worth it. But I was not expecting this to break down like this.

First is saying input missing in Input manager, CheckConsistency might be able to Clear and the rest looks like duplicate actions, choose which action location you want to keep and delete other, wait for compile.

If you say you can revert your project, I would do that and then import carsetup asset in new separate project and export as unitypackage only what you need, also by checking if any of objects that you export needs layer/tags and so can add those manually in your project.

It would be more convenient to help you via the support email, so we can share screenshots if needed.

i was able to clear up some of the errors. it seems your asset completely erases all the layers and replaces them with some new ones and that completely threw off my logic/layers/ etc.

I wish i had some kind of warning about this. your asset just says "back up project before importing" but most assets say that. If i were you, i would definitely update your asset description to include the layer changes. I will send you an email after I revert my project...

I'm sorry your are experiencing this, however there are warnings for the asset:
