Here is my post on the main Unity Forum.. This is such a great group here thought i would put a link to in in case someone could help me shed some light on this problem.. I assume i am just missing something basic that i dont know.

I hope someone can give me some hints or something..


General Discussion / Best Water

Does anyone here use a water solution for Unity that they just love?

I am doing a demo for a company and need an ocean water solution.. I have something using Water 4 i think it is.. It is ok but not the greatest. I have not quite figured out how i scale it properly and keep the same look. And i also need to move in it or maybe i can just adjust the settings to look like i am moving in it.. Then comes the wake of the boat..

I did some reading on the Community water shader but from what i read it was pretty hardware intensive to be used in general.. not sure i am still reading.

Anyway if someone has a great solution they love and think it might fit i would love to know about it. And if i find one i will put something here too.


PlayMaker Help / Issue with Finger Gestures and PlayMaker

So this is the error i get when i build to my iPad.. It all works when i run in the editor.

My first scene does not have any FG in it but my second one does.. When the second scene opens it runs and i can use the FG inputs to move the camera around but when i touch one of my objects this error pops up in xcode and it dies..

I tried a very simple project and it seems to work fine.. Now i was just thinking.. in my test i use FG inputs so i will remove that in case it has something to do with it

General Discussion / Animation software for Kid

So a friend asked me what software would be best for his son who is i think about 10.. Really wants to do animation on the computer.. All he wanted for christmas.

Any suggestions?

I suggested Blender. I took a quick look at it. Seems like it can do almost anything but i dont know anything about it really except that i hear about it now and then which is a good sign.

But maybe there are other alternatives out there. He is willing to pay something like $100 or so if it is better. They built a nice machine together to use for it so power should not be a problem.

When ever i switch to the PM editor window from something else i have to then switch objects to get the proper information to come up.. it has either nothing or an old FSM showing..

PlayMaker Tips & Tricks / How best to share variables on one object

So for my work flow i break up my FSMs into multiple FSMs on each object.. So for my mouse over Logic:

I have one FSM for getting the actual mouse over info like mouse over or button pressed or touch on and off etc.

Another FSM for modifying the look of the object like a color change or something and then adjusting it back again.

Another FSM for displaying mouse over information on the screen like a pop up box or text etc..

What is the best way to share variables between these FSMs? I am currently using Set FSM Float etc..

I wish there were Object variables like Global variables.. I dont like clogging up my Global variables with these types of things as i find it makes it overwhelming with i look at my globals list..


PlayMaker Bug Reporting / Activate Game Object

I get a crash if i use Reset on Exit with the Activate Game Object.. I dont usually use that option for anything but for this instance i thought hey.. why not try it... And in this case i am actually Activating it on enter and just wanted to turn it off on exit.. it should have worked i think..

But any way i just made a separate state instead and it works fine. Just have to try in iOS now.


PlayMaker Bug Reporting / Duplicate Transitions trigger

I had a State that had a generic Transition Event on it 'done'

The next State in line had the same Transition Event on it 'done'

Some times the second state triggers instantly because the 'done' Event is still active..

I switched it to a new Event and it works perfect.

I worry about this because i use this a lot when it is a basic Transition and just completing something general.. i use Done or Finished etc.

I was building a camera controller Action with various functions. I would like to be able to use the curve functions if possible but when i opened up the curve Actions it seems that most of the logic is elsewhere?

Hmmm i never looked in the Unity Scripting reference. Maybe i could just build from there..

Are there built in functions for using curves in PM?


PlayMaker Bug Reporting / [FIXED] Cant enter String value

I made some new string variables and when i go to put in a value for them i get one letter and then when i hit the second letter it turns into 55 and then goes back to the first letter..

Sup that?

I am restarting now see if that fixes it. It did fix it.


PlayMaker Bug Reporting / [SOLVED] EditorWindow could not be Loaded

Something funny happened to my project and now my Playmaker editor windows just show Failed to load


EditorWindow could not be loaded because the script is not found in the project

If i go into the PM menu and click on the editor window button then it come up where it was supposed to but it does this on each load for some reason.


General Discussion / Unity Editor extension

Just wondering if anyone was having good luck with an extension that lets you copy and paste transforms etc?

I thought there was a post somewhere here that said that some of the editor extensions can mess with PM. So i thought i would ask this group for a recommendation.

I would love to be able to copy and past references to objects when i am filling out object references over and over instead of dragging or trying to pick them out from terrible lists where the names are cut off.. Hmmm i wonder if there are options for those lists instead of icons.. just thinking out loud.


PlayMaker Tips & Tricks / Using Global Events in standard Transitions

So i was resetting 3D button objects using a Global Event.. first i set up a new State that checked to see if this button was selected and if it was it would go through the unselect routine of resetting colors and variables etc... But i quickly realized and tried a normal Transition in the state that it would be in if it was selected.. Just added the Global Event to it and if it is sitting there selected and waiting for more in put and something fires the Global event that another new button was selected it goes through the Unselect routine and exits.. Any objects that are not in that state dont do anything.

I was wondering if anyone saw this is a bad thing to do and if not maybe someone will find it helpful.. it was not obvious to me at first.

i wonder if that Transition should be a different color when i attach a Global Event to it?


PlayMaker Help / String Variable issue

I would swear i asked this a while ago but i can not find anything on it at all..

I use an Action that does language look up for me. I store the result it gives me in a variable. Now i need to set the color of the text as well but for some reason the variable i get back does not work with PM actions.. I can see the variable contents in the Variables section of the editor when running. I can use the variable to pass text directly to EZ Gui but if i try to so a Set String or Build String with them they are just blank.

What could that be?


PlayMaker Bug Reporting / Templates copy not work

I made a template on my PC machine as i have a project open on there that i am recycling parts for my new project that is on my Mac...

So i copy the template file over to my Mac into the Templates folder of my project and it does not work. Older Templates work fine but this one does not work. Now it does work on my PC where i created it.

I had this before but just on my Mac and i could not figure it out. It seemed to be hit and miss. I am going to try a few more exports and see if i can get a file to work?
