PlayMaker Announcements / Localizing Playmaker - we need your help!
« on: November 16, 2012, 06:27:22 PM »
In 1.5.0 we've started translating the Playmaker editor into other languages.

I think we'll get the best translations from Playmaker users who actually use the software, so we're using an online service that lets users pitch in and offer translations.

Progress so far:

Chinese Simplified: 100%
Chinese Traditional: 100%
Japanese: 100%
French: 100%
Portuguese Brazilian: 80%
Dutch: 43%
German: 100%
Spanish: 100%
Swedish: 39%

And a bunch of languages at 0%

If you're a bilingual Playmaker user, who can help translate Playmaker into another language, we want to hear from you! Please contact us at

PlayMaker Announcements / Unity version poll
« on: November 08, 2012, 11:34:53 AM »
With Unity 4 coming out very soon, we're thinking about building Playmaker against the Unity 3.5 API, and dropping support for 3.4.2.

But before we do this, I'd like to get a sense of how many people are still using 3.4.2. You can vote 3 times, so if, for example, you use different versions on different projects you can vote for each version.

We would still be able to make builds for 3.4.2 users, but the main branch of development would switch to 3.5 so we can take advantage of some of the newer features.

Official Action Updates / How to download new actions
« on: April 28, 2012, 03:00:39 PM »
NOTE: You must register on the forums to see downloadable attachments!

If the attachment is a script file (E.g., ActionName.cs):

Download the attachment and replace the existing file in your project.
If it's a new script, save it anywhere under Assets.

If the attachment is a unitypackage (E.g., NewActions.unitypackage):

Download the attachment and import it into your project.
This should put the contained actions in the proper directories.

NOTE: New versions of Playmaker will include any actions uploaded here.

If you get this error after downloading an action, or updating Playmaker:

Error CS0101: The namespace `HutongGames.PlayMaker.Actions' already contains a definition for XXXX

This means you have 2 actions with the same name. Type the name into the Project search field and you should quickly be able to find the duplicate files. Delete or move one of the files from your Assets folder to fix the error.

Official Action Updates / ex2D Actions
« on: April 20, 2012, 10:32:37 PM »
Some basic ex2D actions for playing, pausing and resuming ex2D animation clips.

You can also send events to PlayMakerFSMs from ex2D Sprite Animations.

Just create an event in the Sprite Animation Editor:

Method Name: SendEvent
Param Type: STRING
Parameter: event to send

You should also be able to use Get/Set Property actions on ex2D components, I'm guessing with "Use Animation Helper" checked so ex2D updates properly...

I'm not super familiar with ex2D, so please post anything else you'd like to see here...

EDIT: Fixed the action category in the attached scripts.

Official Action Updates / Set Main Camera
« on: April 20, 2012, 04:42:38 PM »
Set the main camera in the scene. The main camera is used by a lot of raycast and touch actions.

This action removes the "MainCamera" tag from the current main camera and adds it to the specified GameObject. You could do the same thing with Set Tag, but this is more convenient :)

Action Requests / Get Property, Set Property, Send Message etc.
« on: April 20, 2012, 07:31:14 AM »
Remember PlayMaker gives you generic access to a lot of Unity functionality with Get Property, Set Property, Send Message, Invoke Method etc.

It's always worth checking these first to see if they do what you need.

Tutorial videos for these coming soon!

Official Action Updates / Device Play Full Screen Movie

Plays a full-screen movie on a device.

Please consult the Unity docs for proper usage:

Hutong Games is pleased to announce that "Game Design with Playmaker and Unity", 4.5 hours of high-quality tutorial videos by Christopher Orth of Well Played Games, is now FREE on our YouTube channel!

We love these videos so we're really happy to be able to share them.

The first 2 videos in the series are up now and we'll be uploading the rest over the next few days:

Official Action Updates / Smooth Look At (Added Finish Event)
« on: April 15, 2012, 10:23:36 AM »
Updated version of Smooth Look At. Adds a Finish Event sent when the angle to the target is less than the Finish Tolerance.

Official Action Updates / Photon Integration Beta [NEW beta3]
« on: April 14, 2012, 10:01:47 AM »
The Photon integration for PlayMaker is now available for public beta testing!

  • You also need Photon for Unity (available on the Asset Store).
  • DO NOT import the demo into existing projects since it can overwrite your assets!

If you want to import this on an existing photon project, delete first the folder "PlayMaker/Photon Networking". The whole system has now moved inside the "Photon Unity Networking" for convenience.

The major improvement compare to previous version is the integration of PlayMaker in the Photon Set up wizard ( accessible either from the menu "PlayMaker/Photon/Set up Photon Networking" and/or the menu "Window/Photon Unity Networking". This wizard will let you know and guide you through the set up of scenes and networked gameObjects and Fsms.

Have fun and please post feedback in this thread...

[EDIT: full package for NGUI support available on the wiki:]

This actually isn't an action, but a component that forwards NGUI Events to a PlayMakerFSM.

Put this component on the GameObject with the Collider used by NGUI.
Choose an FSM to send events to (leave blank to target an FSM on the same GameObject).
You can rename the events to match descriptive event names in your FSM. E.g., "OK Button Pressed"
NOTE: Use the Get Event Info action in PlayMaker to get event arguments.

This is a first step in NGUI integration. More NGUI actions coming soon!

NOTE: You can already interface with NGUI quite a bit using the Get/Set Property actions...

EDIT: Added a few screenshots to show usage.
