2d lightcone that vanishes when close.

heya guys,

i was wondering how id approach making a sprite that has a gradient to simulate light shining through dense/moise air start to vanish (reduce alpha?) the closer i get (so you cant see it from close enough to notice its just a 2d sprite)

so lets say its perfectly visible till 5m out and then starts vanishing the closer i get untill its invisible from about 1 meter distance.

any idea?
