Hex/Tile based movement

Hi,

I am looking at putting together a movement system based on a grid (ie. Player/Enemy can move X number of spaces per turn) and I am completely in a loss as to where to get started with something like that.

Anyone done something similar in the past? Care to share some tips on where to start looking?
