There was a problem with Ecosystem all right.
Having had serious difficulties with a game, I decided to clear the whole mess and to re-install everything from scratch. With Playmaker itself, no problems. With Ecosystem I can reload the package but am not given the option to save it. Also, the Alt-E shortcut doesn't work.
