YAKS : yet another kingdom to save

Hello every one.

I'm super excited to announce the release of my very first game on Steam, scheduled for Q1 2026 — and the Steam page is now live!!

Yaks: Yet Another Kingdom to Save is a deckbuilding game inspired by the genre, with an added touch of RPG.

Built with Unity and Playmaker, this project has been fueled by sweat, coffee, and a whole lot of passion 😅. I’ve also used a bunch of Unity assets, which I’m proud of—it’s a great way to support the amazing community of indie studios and creators out there.

To be honest, I started with zero knowledge of coding or programming. The only thing I might have been able to do was the music—but between composing and dealing with copyright, it was just too time-consuming.
I’ve been learning Playmaker for the past 4 years, and about a year ago I picked one of my four prototypes and committed to it—working on it 10 hours a day. Okay, I’ll admit… I’m not quite hitting those 10 hours anymore 😅

I used Playmaker to handle all the game logic—cards, stats, inventory—without writing a single line of code.
The only part I didn’t build entirely with Playmaker was the fan-style card distribution, which I handled using a small asset I purchased and modified.Even without coding, I managed to comment out lines using //, ran a bunch of tests, and eventually got exactly what I wanted.

Thanks to Hutong Games and the community—even though it's been a while since I last visited the site, there was always someone around to help or point me in the right direction.

Congrats, finishing and releasing a game is no small feat. And using assets is in my opinion the only way to release a game in a relatively short amount of time and like you said, a great way to support the community.

I'll be sure to Wishlist this when I get a chance.

Thanks a lot for the kind words! It really means a lot, especially coming from someone who understands the journey.
