General Discussion / Really like the PM workflow
« on: February 13, 2014, 05:22:54 PM »
ARG - I spent most of today working on my procedural galaxy creator (C#) and saving the results to XML. I've got nearly everything complete and tomorrow I'll be working on the summary report (Faction count, etc). It was a great learning experience (especially trying to get a WHILE loop to work right) but MAN I REALLY missed the VISUAL layout of PM and I've only been using PM for like 4 days...

Just need to figure out more ways to extend PM so that it can do even more.

Community Wiki Suggestions / Add Ons and what not
« on: February 11, 2014, 03:31:27 PM »
Please start adding (or even update existing with v1.0) version numbers to the packages / downloads available on the Wiki. This would make it very easy for us to know if we have the most current version. To add to this would be a change log of course  ;)

Forum Suggestions / Top SEARCH box
« on: February 11, 2014, 08:06:44 AM »
As a new forum user I've finally discovered to NOT use that top SEARCH box at all; or at least not for the forum. Instead to use the Search located on the menu bar.

I'm not sure the point of that search box but I can tell you it hasn't helped me.

Also Searching in general I find myself reading old posts and forget to look at the date only to discover the topic was a work-around for a missing feature that is no longer needed.

Okay, I'm re-reading this and I sound like a whiny biatch... perhaps..  ;)

I'm really liking using and learning PM but when I hit a snag, come here and (use the wrong) search; I end up more frustrated.

Bottom line: Please take my comments with (several) grains of salt and I really do try and provide (hopefully) valuable feedback.

PS One more thing... make those "News:" items clickable for Pete's sake... don't make me go digging for something that interests me.... okay now that WAS whiny...

Playmaker Help / GLOBAL EVENTS
« on: February 11, 2014, 07:53:46 AM »
If I set an EVENT (e.g. "ATTACK_TARGET") to GLOBAL and this FSM is on a PREFAB that will have many CLONES in the scene. When I send this EVENT do ALL cloned objects get the event or just the one.

Sorry if this is a "duh" question; I'm really trying to wrap my head around how PM functions and inter-operates and how (and if) it can support my design concept.

Playmaker Help / TRIGGER ENTER / EXIT
« on: February 11, 2014, 07:47:18 AM »
Store Collider seems to be broken. If I choose to use the "store" function and set it to my GO variable, when I reference that saved variable it is empty. The "fix" (Thank you Lane!) is to use the "Get Trigger Info" and set my GO variable and that works.

Am I not understanding the purpose of "Store Collider"; is it broken; and should I submit a bug report?

Playmaker Help / Debug Log type INFO [PATCHED]
« on: February 11, 2014, 07:42:20 AM »
Is not displaying anything in the console. I have to set all my Debug Logs to type WARNING. Is this a known issue or is it a setting somewhere? I would like to start filtering my Console output.

Community Wiki Suggestions / [MISSING] Unity Serializer![SOLVED]
« on: February 09, 2014, 10:25:56 AM »
Here's the info to add to the Wiki Add-Ons section

Unity Serializer  FREE! UnitySerializer is a full level serialisation plug in.  It enables you to save the progress of a game and restore it at some point in the future.

Fairly disappointed that I spent several days researching saving data only to discover Mike included a basic PlayMaker package in his FREE Unity Serializer.

Can we please get this added to the Add-Ons section of the Wiki to save others the frustration...  :)

Edit: Oh and feel free to add these extras too FORUM LINK

Forum Suggestions / Functionality - Usability
« on: February 08, 2014, 04:13:43 AM »
My recent post (yesterday and today) I was not able to create a new post (or new reply) WITH an attachment. All three times I got some database error or the page just stopped responding and I closed the tab (after copying the contents of my post).

The fix in all instances was to first post WITHOUT any attachment, then MODIFY the post and add the attachment.

Let me know if you need any additional info.

Playmaker Help / Basic AI [SOLVED]
« on: February 07, 2014, 04:56:11 PM »
Starting to work on my basic AI I will (hopefully) use. This is just the beginning and I have a lot more planned but I'm already hitting a stumbling block :-(

Planets are tagged "Planet"
Fighters are tagged "Fighter1", "Fighter2" and "Fighter3"

My basic goal is after the trigger (enter/exit) is fired I save the Collider and then in the next state I check its tag. If it matches the tag set for each planet (e.g. Planet 1 uses Fighter1, etc) then it should SKIP the "Add Target" (or "Remove Target"), if no match then it processes either the "Add" or "Remove".

As it is now ALL targets go through the "Add" or "Remove". What I would expect is that on Planet 2 when I move "Fighter2" into the trigger it should not add it but it does.

I have also noticed:
1. DebugLogs set to Info don't display <- is this expected? I have to set them to Warning to have the show
2. When I DebugLog.Warning on my saved game object.tag is does not display which I fear is the root cause of the problem.

I'm going to take a break for a bit but hopefully someone has some insight as to my blunder  ;)
Here's a screenshot which hopefully helps:
got it...
