I'm a new Unity user experiencing a persistent error when trying to install the PlayMaker plugin. I've tested it on Unity 2020, 2022, 6000.x.x (Unity 6), and several other versions, but the same error keeps appearing

Unable to update following assemblies
Assets/Plugins/PlayMaker/PlayMaker.dll
(Name = PlayMaker, Error = 131)
(Output: C:\Users\NAKER_~1\AppData\Local\Temp\tmp6b0f4b7e.tmp)
What I've tried

Installing PlayMaker on Unity 2020.x
Installing PlayMaker on Unity 2022.x
Installing PlayMaker on Unity 6000.x.x (Unity 6)
Testing on other Unity versions
The error persists across all versions

What does "Error = 131" specifically mean in Unity's assembly update process?
Why is the DLL file failing to update despite trying multiple Unity versions?
Are there any known compatibility issues between PlayMaker and certain Unity configurations?
What steps should I take to resolve this assembly update error?

As a new user, I would really appreciate any guidance or step-by-step solutions! Thankyou.

I haven't seen this before, and there are no known compatibility issues.

Are you importing from the Unity Asset Store? Try re-downloading the asset (maybe it's corrupted).

If you're importing from the Hutong Games Store, please make sure you're importing the correct package.

Some more installation notes here: https://hutonggames.fogbugz.com/default.asp?W11

Some other things to check:
  • Sometimes virus checkers can cause problems with Unity temp files. Try disabling them temporarily.
  • Double check you're not out of disk space.

Let me know if none of these work!

I bought it directly from the Unity Asset Store, just like I did when I purchased Adventure Creator. I’ve tried every possible way, but the problem still remains.

Please help me.

I’m a student about to work on my graduation project, and I come from a modest background. I feel that 50 dollars is quite valuable to me. Thank you again.

Thanks for the error log. Just to double check, does the install fail? Is PlayMaker in the main menu? Can you open the PlayMaker Editor? The API updater is the last step - not sure why it would fail, but the install might be complete. This information will help me investigate the issue.

Also, again double-checking, did you use the dropdown arrow on the Import button in the Package Manager to "Re-download 1.9.9"?
