AngryShips Prototyping Progress
« on: July 26, 2012, 11:37:36 AM »
It's been about ten days since I got PlayMaker and started digging in and this is the progress I've made on the prototype game.

So far a there is a somewhat working system for Health, Damage, Projectiles, Interchangeable weapons, Shopping and Interacting. At least from the work so far you can see there is a decent foundation to work with so I'm pretty stoked about that.

At this point I haven't found really anything that I can't accomplish with PlayMaker and I'm pretty happy with the groundwork. I need to clean up a reliable system for interacting with NPC's, globalize some shopping actions and inventory and work out the HUD stuff among other things before I can really more into building bunches of art assets.

Anyway, here is a package that might help new users take a glance at one way that these things can be accomplished. I plan on updating this and building a small level with everything working 100% with graphics and AI to offer to everyone and then moving forward for a more working game with more levels.

Hi,

First rule when you send a package, always test it on a fresh project :)

There is basically nothing in your package. before you export, you should have that list of assets that are going to be included, you will need at least the scenes you want to share. If you don't see anythingm then you need to select the scenes you want to include from the project browser and then export as a package.

bye,

 Jean

hmm weird, FileDen seems to have messed up the file, it's 0kb but the local one works fine and its ~1.7mb.

Anyway, I reuploaded and tested it. Seems to work ok, just gotta reimport the missing dll's. It seems to have broken some prefab links.

Update today:

  • Updated the Web player
  • Mockup textures on the player Ship
  • Shop has better interaction, but still using default GUI graphics.
  • Added a properly textured (decent diffuse) enemy ship with primitive turret style AI.

Immediate Goals:
  • Improve AI to move around during combat and pursue the player out of range.
  • Improve player ship textures
  • Add a background setup that can be easily reused and modified.
  • Model and texture Taffer's refurb shop
  • Create some props with mockup textures
  • Make a missle weapon template
  • Create GUI graphics template for player HUD stats, interactions and shop
