Update on Playmaker/Photon interaction and prerequisites
« on: August 10, 2019, 12:35:34 PM »
I was looking into the possibility of trying to include multiplayer and noted this particularly old thread

https://hutonggames.com/playmakerforum/index.php?topic=4570.0

The key point was that as of 2015 at least photon was the most supported multiplayer asset, but I was also confused regarding the pricing, especially in regards to the requirement of unity pro or pun+. I was researching on the photon page

https://www.photonengine.com/en-US/PUN/pricing

and it confirms there's a free version with free 20 CCU, but from the original forum post it sounds like that wont work with Playmaker without Unity Pro or PUN+ and I  would need to purchase the PUN+ for $95 or unity pro for $125. From looking at Unity Pro I couldn't understand how it would be required, so I was just wondering if these requirements are still significant and whether or not I could attempt to work with multiplayer without dropping a significant sum of money.

hi,

no, that thread is obsolete, PUN and PlayMaker do not require any specific licensing of Unity.

PUN + is only a nice way to get 100 CCU for 60 month, it doesn't change anything in terms of support, deployment, etc.

Bye,
