Creating a grid
« on: March 11, 2021, 07:33:23 PM »
Hi, looking to make a grid and trying to find a way to store objects in cells. From a search I found some ideas to use array maker. But if I want to make a 1000x1000 grid, does that mean I have to add 1000 proxies to a object?
Or is there a better way?

Hi.
Probably best to use Array maker, its more advanced than the build in arrays.

it also has an array grid component, and you can create @ runtime

I'm using array maker, didn't know you had to add proxies with regular arrays.

I couldn't find anything called array grid, did you mean table? If so, how do I setup a grid with them? Like I said, what I read was that you have to add 1 proxy for each column.
And can't it be done in edit mode? What if I want to manually setup contents of cells while editing?

Hi.
Yeah I mean Array maker has a grid component called array List Table.
in the table you can add array lists.

but if you gonna do 1000x1000 by hand that's probably not a good way/idea.

maybe you can give some more info on why you need a 1000x1000 grid

Maybe I should have said up to 1000. I don't know the exact number yet. I'm looking for a way to place items on a map with a grid, like a city builder does. Also, I want it quite large.

Can I get help with this please? I can't find any info in the manual about how to use array tables correctly.
Is it even possible to use them for what I want? If not, say so and give me some alternatives. I'm not even sure what's the optimal size for a 2d array. Maybe I need to link several? But first I must know how to use it.
