New Input System Breaks When Control Schemes Are Used

I'm trying to use the new input system. It works by adding the Player Input script to a game object and then that sends the input to the Playmaker actions.

But, from what I can tell it stops working when I add any control schemes.

In the pictures attached, the one on the left is what the Input Action Asset looks like with no control schemes. The one on the right has control schemes and the inputs don't work anymore. You can see how the presence of a control scheme alters the options.

Is this a known thing?

(And no, I'm not switching to Rewired. Which I already have, but aren't using on this).
