Playmaker not installing on Mac [solved]
« on: August 25, 2011, 07:21:00 PM »
I purchased playmaker and tried to install it on my Mac without success. I then installed it on my pc without problems. I'm using the current version of unity and lion. I've tried clicking in the menu, and restarting unity, started with a clean project, rebooted the Mac and nothing works. The playmaker menu will not appear, however under the component menu there is the playmaker options fsm and GUI both greyed out. Any idea what I can try.

I had exactly the same problem and searched around for awhile before figuring it out.

It's not obvious at all  :'(

What you have to do is this:

Go to the PlayMaker menu
Open PlayMaker FSM Editor
Dock it (select the top bar and move with mouse until it locks where you want it to)
Then, to get the Actions menu, create a gameobject
Go to Playmaker menu again
Click 'Add FSM to selected'
You will now have an FSM in the Playmaker window (the flowchart)
Bottom right of that window is a button called 'Action Browser', click it.
The Action menu will now appear, dock that and you're done.

If you restart Unity, you're windows will have all the new menus.

Totally not obvious at all, unless I'm missing something?

When you start Unity after installing Playmaker, your first instinct is to change the window tabs, but there is no 'Playmaker' or 'Actions' in the drop down menu. Maybe there should be?

Anyway, hope that fixed your problem.

I think these are 2 different issues...

Sounds like jbarkan can't get the Playmaker menu to show up at all. I'm at a loss for why this would happen... Sometimes I have to click in the menu bar after importing for the Playmaker menu to show up, but that's the most I've ever needed to do...

The other issue I think is with finding the extra editor windows. There's a button in the top left of the Playmaker Editor that opens a menu with all the editor windows. I agree it's easy to miss - in 1.2 the button has a dropdown icon, and the extra editor windows are also available in the main Playmaker menu.

Yes, I have no playmaker menu. I can add a FSM to an object under the Component menu, but there is no way to open the editor. I installed uScript through the asset store after Playmaker and it added a new menu with no problem. I can use my PC for now, but I may try reinstalling Unity to see if it resolves the issue.

If you add a PlayMakerFSM component to an object then click Edit, does it open the playmaker editor?

I can right click and edit script, but unity opens MonoDevelop. On the Gizmos drop down there is an option for PlayMakerGUI, I clicked the checkmark, but it had no effect.

The PlayMakerFSM component in the Unity inspector panel should have an Edit and an Info button next to the name of the FSM.

That line in the inspector is replaced with:

Script.                        PlayMakerFSM.                   o

PlayMakerFSM is a script file and the o opens a script selection dialog.

Strange... I assume you've tried re-importing playmaker?

Some questions:

What version of Unity are you using?
Can you confirm you have PlayMaker\PlayMaker.dll?
And PlayMaker\Editor\PlayMakerEditor.dll?

EDIT: Also double-check that you don't have Debug checked in the Unity Inspector panel (settings menu). This would explain the missing custom inspector for PlayMakerFSM.

Also sometimes after installing Playmaker I have to click on the menu bar for it to show up...

I have tried re-importing multiple times.

Version unity iPhone 3.4.0f5
I have playmaker.dll in the playmaker folder.
Playmakereditor.dll is in the editor folder.
I checked all of the files and they match my PC install.

Normal is check marked in the inspector. Not debug.

As far as I know everything is at defaults.

Are you importing into an existing project?
Have you tried importing into a new project?

I'm guessing you have...

The 1.2 update is live in the asset store now - might be worth giving that a shot!

I installed 1.2 and it was still missing. Then I tried a new project with playmaker and the menu was there! I went back to the project I was working on and the menu was working there too. Sometimes it's the simple things, and thanks for all of the help.
