Resize sprite

I am detecting the screen width and resizing the sprite to fit it (a little bit of stretching is no problem in this case). It doesn't work. Any tips, please?

I see it resize in the editor window, but not in play screen (or on devices)...

Also, for some reason it turns colorless as well. :(
