Spam Messages
« on: April 12, 2017, 01:33:23 AM »
Hi,
Lately the spam messages are posting more and more.
There need to be found a solution for this...
If anyone has some solution for this, post it here :)

We are working on a solution now,
but you can still post ideas to fight those evil ad spammers.

Quote
I also requested to Alex to give access to remove posts but even if i can remove them manually, it would be better if we can find another solution.

I can remove posts now.

If you find some spam please let me know on our Playmaker discord channel in the 'report-spam' channel. (this is the fastest way)
If possible please add the url from the spam message.

Here is a link to our discord channel : https://discord.gg/JG4fpgg

Or you can click on 'Report to moderator' on the post to report.

Thanks in advance for all the help

The solution is to upgrade to a "proper" forum. SMF is way to dated. I think an 150$ XenForo license shoudn't be a problem.

Hi,

The problem being porting the existing posts, attachments and users from smf to another system. Plus I don't think SMF is the problem here but more the captcha system which is based on predefined answers that bots can easily sniff around and then reuse to create fake accounts, I think this is what's going on.

 Bye,

 Jean

There are converters. Even if you can't convert directly from SMF to XenForo, you can do it like SMF > PHPBB > XenForo.

Actually... it seems it supports SMF:

Can you not add on the google's re-captcha system? That should solve the issue, rather than switching to a whole new forum.

No single spam protection is going to work in this day and age. I used to teach courses on spam protection for large scale drupal websites. It included 10 plus options that sites could deploy. It seems SMF supports many of them.

A combination of honeypot, google captcha and something like bad behaviour together usually got around 95% of spam stopped.

There are large spam farms still operated in certain countries that use humans to bypass captcha and honeypot manually. Once the account is created by a human, then a bot takes over. They get paid a few cents per account.

XenForo has some plugins to enhance spam protection... besides the capcha. It has a plugin that checks multiple steps and if the user is passing a trashhold it's stopping the registration.

XenForo is really really cool :)
