Hello !

Looks like Unity launched new program to invest in UA for mobile game devs. Read the blog and FAQ for more info

Example :
Quote
An indie developer has a mobile game that makes $3,000/month. They apply to the Game Growth program. Unity spends $100,000/month to acquire new users to the game, retains those users with dedicated live operations support, and grows the game to $130,000/month in revenue.*
Unity would first recoup their $100,000 in monthly user acquisition costs, leaving $30,000 in monthly revenue. So the developer and Unity would share that $30,000 equally, giving $15,000 to the developer and $15,000 to Unity.*

So they become soft publishers on free mobile games with a 50/50 deal but will "encourage" certain practices regarding monetization of content, although the developing studio is said to retain creative control even when the partnership ends.

There's drama going on. Some sour grapes.
Some good questions have been asked. The two main issues thus far are highlighted in Matt Rix' post:
- on what do they take their cut exactly (all profit or the increased value due to the service they provide)
- how can we be sure they provide the real investment price (if they inflate it, since they first recoup this cost, it could totally swallow the dev studio's share)

The saltiness. Mysterious.
17 years of acidic regrets.
